The Very Rainy Day, part 4

by

Crow had received a now-damp postcard — from her second cousin, the watercolorist, who was on a painting expedition on the sunny southern coast — and she took it with her to Rabbit’s.

When she arrived, Squirrel was there, looking bedraggled but pleased (the ground was finally damp enough for digging, and he’d found all eleven of his nut-stash holes). Raccoon arrived with a batch of warm focaccia, and Old Possum wandered in carrying a slightly-too-small umbrella he’d borrowed from Mouse.

While they sheltered from the rain, Crow passed around her sunny postcard, and everyone felt warmer just by looking at it.
