The Very Rainy Day, part 2

While the rain poured down on the garden and the woods and surrounding neighborhood, Squirrel dashed to and fro, completely unconcerned that his coat and tail were becoming soggier and more bedraggled by the minute.

He was on a mission — while the ground was softer than it had been over the past several dry weeks — to check on all eleven holes where he’d buried acorns and walnuts last fall. He’d decided that now was the perfect, if rather wet, time to clean them all out in preparation for this year’s hoard, if only he could remember where they all were.
