The Watered Garden

Rabbit sighed, having tallied up her count of cloudless days, which now stood at three hot, sunny weeks without a drop of rain.

 

Thankfully, the Gardener and his wife had been watering – both morning and evening on the hottest days – so all the thirsty flowers, the trees, the ferns, and the moss were lush and happy.

 

And even the terra cotta pots of tomatoes, peppers, and herbs were flourishing to such an extent that Raccoon had no qualms about harvesting a few tomatoes, several sprigs and bunches of herbs, and one sweet pepper for a batch of fresh summertime gazpacho.
