The Midsummer Choir

by

Since closing the school-tree for summer vacation, Mr. Owl had been focused on his annual concert.

After gathering sheet music and holding tryouts, he had supervised the barely-controlled chaos of daily rehearsals among this year’s Midsummer Choir: three squirrels, five chipmunks, and 38 songbirds.

And, although drums weren’t strictly necessary, Mr. Owl found that he couldn’t say no to the young rabbit who’d joined them last year, and who had promised to try not to drown out the choir with her rather enthusiastic drumming. She, of course, was thrilled, having recently crafted a new set of drums from hollowed-out pinecones.
