The Baking Spree
While Rabbit read books, while Old Possum fixed an elaborate meal and ate leftovers, while Mama Chipmunk’s grandchildren ran around the house, and while the rain fell, Raccoon baked.
She baked and baked and baked some more: chocolate-chip cookies and granola with dried fruit and lemon-blueberry cupcakes with cream cheese icing.
By the end of the second day of rain, she was completely out of butter and had nearly run out of flour.
On the third day, she washed so many mixing bowls and spoons and measuring cups and baking pans that her fingers turned wrinkly in the hot water.
