The Intense Rainstorm, part 3

by

The rain was so fierce that it was keeping Rabbit’s customers away. So she turned the “open” sign to “closed,” went behind the shop curtain, up the steps into the farther reaches of her roomy burrow, and into the kitchen, where she fixed a lunch salad with vine-ripe cherry tomatoes, cucumber, cheese, and sourdough croutons.

After she’d eaten, she sat down with a book.

And when she awoke later, Rabbit heard a strange sound coming from the tea shop.

She ran to investigate and found water pouring in underneath the front door, down the steps, and across the dirt floor.
