The Thermos of Tea

by

Mrs. Mouse awoke from her nap in the woodland meadow and sat up, blinking.

The tea in the thermos she’d brought was still hot, so she poured herself a cup.

As she sipped — feeling deliciously cozy in the sun — she noticed that her neighbor — Mama Chipmunk’s cousin — had also come outside and that she, too, had fallen asleep among the wildflowers.

After finishing her tea, Mrs. Mouse went quietly home, fetched a fresh teacup and then left it, along with the rest of the still-hot tea, for her chipmunk friend to find when she awoke from her own springtime nap.
